Gawin’s eyes widened, his fingers trembling slightly in his lap, golden hues twisting across his surprised features.
The restaurant was dimly lit, its round tables adorned with candlelight and drapes of delicate flowers. It was an intimate place with a priceless menu made of thick cream paper, and dishes written in neat calligraphy that Gawin could hardly pronounce.
Even though it wasn’t their first time having dinner here, Gawin was still always afraid of choosing the wrong fork or chewing too loudly. But this beautiful, fancy Italian restaurant served a pizza that was well worth the awkwardness. The best in the city. The owner, a Neapolitan chef, had brought his culinary heritage to Bangkok, blending Italian and Thai traditions into a work of art.
The first time Gawin had taken a bite of their pizza Napolitana, he’d made an embarrassing sound that had thrown his dinner companion into a laughing fit.
This had been their first date. At the time, they barely knew each other.
Now they were back, and a tiny, square, blue box stood proudly on the table.
Gawin raised his gaze to the man in front of him.
Joss Way-Ar Sangngern was smiling, but the corners of his mouth were tight.
He watched Gawin expectantly.
“Open it,” he said, reaching over the table to push the box further toward Gawin.
Joss laced his fingers in front of him, leaning over the table. The sleeves of his white shirt were pushed back, his exposed forearms tensed as he waited. He peered at Gawin over the rim of his gold frames, impatient.
Gawin took a deep inhale, lifted the box, and Joss grinned, dimples cutting his cheeks.
Gawin shook his head, in disbelief.
It had only been six months. Six months since he’d crossed Joss Wayar’s path. Six months since he had fallen inexorably in love, and six months dreaming of this moment. Gawin couldn’t believe it. He had succeeded. And way faster than he’d anticipated.
Inside of the box, on a cushion of black velvet, sat a ring.
It was a band – silver, or more likely, given Joss’ tastes, white gold – encrusted with small diamonds and emeralds. It was a beautiful, magnificent thing that Gawin was sure could cover years of his rent.
Heat rippled underneath Gawin’s skin, something feral bouncing and howling within him.
He struggled not to leap over the table, cradle Joss in his arms, and bury his teeth in the beautiful man he would soon call his husband.
Gawin delicately plucked the ring, eyeing it with reverence.
Finally.
Hey, besties!
I didn’t think it would take me this long to update. This past month I’ve been completely focused on CINAS and, as you know, chapter 16 was a real pain to write.
If everything goes well, I should be able to update this story more regularly from now on. I can’t wait for you to discover this version of Gawin and uncover all his secrets…
Talk to you soon!🫶
